Studio Journal

here you will find my process in the studio as a creator and performer

This will be where I write about what I am doing in the studio rehearsals or in classes I am taking with various people... you can watch my process as a solo creator who works whole body with text and singing... and also incorporates her spiritual practice into her art practice...

romance or overwhelmed?

I miss the groundedness of teaching in Toronto right now... my travels are romantic and overwhelming. I feel lost a good deal of the time and my head is spinning. I look towards being back in Toronto Sept 2014 the way a drunk fisherman with too many fish too head home may look at dry land. Glad the fish are here, but I am not sure my nets will hold and I really look forward to familiar solid ground... I am challenging myself on so many levels at once, i am ready to burst at the seams...

How soon does a gig happen, from conversation to actual performance?

Well in Canada people will typically say 18 months... and that has been true for me in the USA as well, sometimes longer and yet this past year, I have had gigs appearing anywhere from 6 months to well

I was told by someone here in Bali-

'no problem, if you get the visa June 1st, we can have you do a performance here in June, so we have a lot of time still...'

REALLY?? wow... a lot of time? that's fast... Ok... and the contact was made in March...

TURN OFF THE CELL PHONE in rehearsal

I am always telling actors I work with to TURN THE PHONE OFF

well at certain points, when you are managing your own indie career, that is a hard piece of advice for me to follow...

so I am fortunately next week headed back to work with Rainsford in Melbourne, and while working with him I will have to

TURN OFF THE PHONE (and skype and e mail and blogging...) and it will be SOOO welcome!

But visas, plane tickets, cargo fees... still you have to be dealt with.
