Erika Batdorf

My current show in development that had a 12 minute performance in Tblisi Georgia with Arwinda, a musical duo from Germany. It was supposed to be a solo, but we had too much fun and it was a magical meeting so we are creating this piece together with their amazing music! April 19th in Munich is our first full evening version!

Commissioned by Luminato International Festival of Arts and Creativity, the creations process for this show was extraordinary and lasted over 3 yrs involving dancers, poets, actors, singers, designers... It was a collaborative creation in which we studied the poetry and life of Tahirih, an Iranian poet who unveiled herself in public in 1848 and was killed for her outspoken nature and radical spiritual poetry. We were an interfaith group of professional artists that prayed together and bravely talked about faith, longing and the love of God... however we differently defined that!

A project I directed for the Thistle Project. We adapted Peer Gynt into a 2 hander for Susan Coyne as Peer and Matthew Romantini as everyone else and we completely transformed the Holy Trinity Church in downtown. Produced by the inimitable and talented Christine Horne. Toronto... we made the top 10 theatre in NOW for 2010 and great reviews...

Poetic Licence was a solo that I created in 2005 with a remount in 2008. It has toured to the USA, Hawaii, Indonesia and Canada and received 3 Dora nominations... most recently performed in the KO Festival summer 2010 Massachusetts

A 45 minute comic monologue that I created in the 90's... it received a plawriting award from the Massachusetts Cultural Arts Council and has toured extensively throughout the USA and Canada including NYC, Alaska, California, Boston, Toronto, Winnipeg, Rhode Island and most recently November 2011 in Brooklyn, NY! Photos of The Red Horse is Leaving, a theatrical solo by Erika Batdorf - photos by David Leyes This piece ran for three weeks at The Theatre Center and has toured to Mexico and the USA. I am hoping to remount this piece with a new stage design in the coming years...

This is Matthew Romantini in a show I directed and created with the Thistle Project in 2006. It received 4 Dora nominations and had a wildly successful run. It also made top 10 in NOW magazine best theatre of 2006
