    The Batdorf Spring Intensive

"An original thinker, practitioner and teacher, Erika Batdorf is a pre-eminent teacher in her field. Don’t miss the opportunity to drink deeply of her wisdom, insights, and profoundly transformative work." – Marya Lowry, Associate Professor, Brandeis University; Founding Member/Resident Actor, Actor’s Shakespeare Project; Roy Heart Theatre Voice Teacher

The 2017 Batdorf Spring Intensive will run Monday to Friday for two weeks May 1-12th

at The Brink- 910 Queen St W.

with two options: mornings 10-12:30 or full days 10-4:30.

The Batdorf Spring Intensive trains performers with renowned teacher, creator and performer, Erika Batdorf as well as guest instructors (this year we have dancer choreographer Kate Digby from NYC/Kansas (TBT certified) and actor/yoga teacher/Butoh artist Matthew Romantini and TBT teacher in training), in emotional authenticity and physical presence. BSI offers practical, inspirational and concrete tools for enhancing presence and increasing authentic emotional access for performers.

    Daily Schedule

    MORNING SESSIONS

The mornings are open to all! Non-performers also welcome (great for yoga teachers, therapists doing somatic work etc…).

     Interoceptive Awareness for Performers 10am-12:30pm

IAP is a system to access and develop heightened presence through physiological awareness. Through a rigorous and freeing process students are taught reliable principles that help them juggle awareness and reclaim a sense of physical aliveness and presence. We start with a warm up and then cover a core principle of IAP followed by a structured improvisation that allows you to practice and explore the work more deeply and apply it to performance material (monologue, poem, choreography or even public speaking). Elements of Butoh, yoga and vocal work will also be incorporated into the workshop. (taught by M Romantini and E Batdorf)

We only take 14 people total in the morning, so register soon!

    AFTERNOON SESSIONS

    Kinesthetic Transference in Performance 1:30-4:30pm

    (permission of instructor only)

In the afternoon, we will do intermediate to advanced work towards the exciting and challenging work of Kinesthetic Transference in Performance. We will be integrating in a systematic way various levels of awareness into performance work of the practitioners choice, giving feedback to each other and exploring improvisationally together; ideal for those who have a background in The Batdorf Technique or other somatic performance systems. Participants must have some access to interoceptive awareness while juggling multiple levels of external awareness (muscular skeletal, communication, sensory etc) OR be experienced performers excited about jumping in to the deep end! Those taking the afternoon must take the morning except in exceptional circumstances.(taught by E Batdorf and Kate Digby)

We only take 10 people total in the full day intensive, so register soon!

    TEACHER TRAINING

There will be a concurrent teacher-training program open to advanced practitioners of The Batdorf Technique by permission of instructor only.
