* 1848 Experiment # 1 appeared in Rhubarb 2008 at Buddies in Bad Times
Feb 20-24 8pm every evening in the Chamber Theatre

This was a work in progress duet created by Batdorf in collaboration with dancer Kate Digby from New York and actor Adam Seybold from Toronto

* In May Batdorf worked with The Thistle Project on their two hander version of Peer Gynt featuring Christine Horne and Matthew Romantini

 

Practical tools for creating original theatre from A-Z Part 1

Monday Feb 25th, 2008 10-5 $75

This is a basic comprehensive introduction to creating original work. This is primarily an informational session covering practical issues regarding creation and production of your own work. It can be applied to solo work as well as devised theatre in general. Bring a notebook.

Practical tools for creating original theatre from A-Z Part 2

Monday Mar 3rd, 2008 10-5 $75 or $140 for both days

This workshop includes individual feedback on material and ideas. This will also be very practical and will address not just creation ideas- but also personal challenges- such as- How do I support this work? How do I stay committed? This is best for someone who already has a sense of how they work and questions/problems that they have encountered. This will be a smaller group and more focused on responding to your particular projects and challenges. Bring your ideas, questions, dreams, obstacles and a large notebook with no lines.

Sourcing and Structuring Original Theatrical Material

Tuesday-Friday Mar 4-7th, 2008 1-5 $200

This is creation based entirely and includes exercises on sourcing material, extending material, homework and feedback. We will cover exercises for sourcing and structuring material using nature, music, story and autobiography. Bring a large notebook with no lines.

2007

* Gorey Story was nominated for 4 Doras! Outstanding direction, play, production and costume design!!

* Erika had a very busy 2007 and had a great time doing some theatrical coaching for Denise Fujiwara’s dance piece No Exit based on Sartre’s play that appeared at the Enwave Theatre in April, 2007.

* She also worked as movement coach on an exciting production of Twilight Café by Tony Hall directed by Rhoma Spencer that open Wednesday May 16th at The Theatre Centre.

* In May 2007, Erika was workshopping Bird’s Eye View that was presented in Summerworks in August in Toronto.  Obsessed with flight, a prisoner under surveillance escapes into a tiny world of her own creation.   Set to an original musical score, Bird's Eye View is a visually evocative multi-media puppet show inspired by Oscar Wilde and his work. This is a solo co-created and directed by Erika and performed by puppeteer, theatre creator and performer Faye Dupras, of Foreign Landscapes.

Bird’s Eye View will also be presented in Boston next year. Check back for those details.

* In June 2007 Erika developed a dance/theatre duet with Kate Digby of NYC’s Digby Dance http://www.digbydance.org and  with Toronto actor Adam Seybold that will premier in Boston in April 2008.

* Monday, September 24, 2007 Erika Batdorf did a 4 min performance from Poetic License at Kaleidoscope @ Yonge-Dundas Square.

* Mar 22- Apr 8, 2007 The finished version of The Red Horse had a three
week run at The Great Hall (The Theatre Centre), Toronto.

*Oct 31, 2006 Gorey Stories : A macabre and comic tale based on Edward Gorey's The Gashlycrumb Tinies. A story of neglect and human denial; an ABC of twenty-six dead children.

Directed by Erika Batdorf, adapted by Matthew Romantini and Christine Horne, opening Halloween at 10.30pm and playing Fridays through Sundays at 8pm in November at the Artists' Play Studio Theatre, 290 Carlaw, Suite 101 [map]. Tickets $20. Sundays PWYC or $15 in advance.

*Erika performed The Red Horse is Leaving, at the 1st International
Conference on Performance Art Theory, held from Oct. 4-6, 2006 in Tijuana, Baja
California, Mexico, at the Escuela Superior de Artes Visuales.

* Sept 2006 Erika started work on a new piece of choreography for Kate Digby
of Digby Dance, New York.

*Sept 21, 2006 Erika performed The Red Horse is Leaving, at the Baha'i
Association for Mental Health Professionals
at Louhelen in Davison, Michigan. She
also gave a lecture/discussion entitled: What do we Fear? The Arts and the
Integration of the Body in Spiritual and Healing Practice.
